Tirau, originally named Oxford, is a vibrant little town set in the South Waikato amongst some of New Zealand's most fertile farmland. It is also the oldest town in the South Waikato and boasts an unusually large number of craft, art and antique stores. Its most famous landmarks though have to be the corrugated iron sheepdog and sheep. Housing the information centre the massive sheepdog is complimented by an equally large sheep. You can't miss them!
